Profile

Wendy Jane Henson

Screenwriter

Short Bios

My educational background includes a bachelor's degree in drama and a master's degree in screenwriting. Originally trained as an actress, a director and a teacher, I worked for 23 years in educational and civic theater. I have produced, directed and designed 27 shows from Classic Greek to Shakespeare and David Mamet. After three plays I wrote were produced and published, I became interested in screenwriting.

In addition to several screenwriting awards, I was a Nicholl Fellowship finalist. Otherwise my experience includes seven screenplay options, four trips through development hell, and one "almost produced" feature film. (We were in preproduction when the investors backed out. Welcome to Hollywood.)

I also enjoy writing for print, and I have a novel which my publisher chose as a Book of the Month selection. As a former instructor in theater arts and creative writing, I am the author of a college textbook, SCREENWRITING: STEP BY STEP. Published by Pearson Education, my book is available in various languages and used for college screenwriting courses worldwide, including China.
