Profile

Svilen Kamburov

Screenwriter | Producer

Short Bios

Raised in Eastern Europe, behind the Iron Curtain, Svilen graduated with a BA in English and American Literature and Linguistics from Sofia University, Bulgaria. He also furthered his education in Paris, France at La Sorbone and at the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in the classes of Graham Christopher from Shakespeare's Globe, London, and Norbert Kentrup and Dagmar Papula of the Bremer Shakespeare Company.

Svilen’s upbringing in Eastern Europe, where the struggle to keep freedom of expression alive in the face of communist censorship, have paved the way for him to move to Los Angeles after the fall of the Berlin Wall and pursue a career in screenwriting.

His screenplays have been recognized by the Academy's Nicholl Fellowship, WorldFest IFF, Austin Film Festival, Francis Ford Coppola Zoetrope, Page, Creative World Awards, and the Sundance Screenwriters Lab.

Besides being an optioned screenwriter with various projects in development with production companies in LA and NY, Svilen is also a producer of feature films and socially conscious documentaries: "Into the Gyre", "The Divide", and "The Man who Saved the World", featuring Robert De Niro, Kevin Costner, Ashton Kutcher, and Matt Damon. Svilen is currently repped by Kennoff and Machtinger.
