THE DRAGON RIDER by Geoff Holder wins Honorable Mention in WISC

Geoff Holder's sci-fi THE DRAGON RIDER gains Honorable Mention (4th Place) in the WeScreenplay International Screenplay Competition.

A few comments from the judges:
"This is a terrific piece that does an excellent job of making the impossible probable. The core of the story is strong and offers a truly exciting adventure."

"Filled with chair gripping action, The Dragon Rider is a fun yet somewhat campy fantasy romp with a cast of unique characters who manage to stand out while not upstaging our protagonist. Sigourney Weaver like heroine Jane is nicely complex, dark yet likable, helping give body to an extremely enjoyable tale."

NY Screenwriter, Timothy Benson wins at The British Animation Film Festival

NY screenwriter, Timothy M. Benson, has been honored by the British Animation Film Festival, where he won in the category of BEST UNPRODUCED SCREENPLAY for his feature-length animation screenplay, "HOOKED," a family-fun, fishing-themed adventure.HOOKED has exploded across the global film festival circuit winning just shy of ten screenwriting awards in only a few short months. As an avid Northern Pike fisherman, Benson was inspired to write HOOKED based on his own fishing adventures and his fascination with the theme of legend. HOOKED's high-concept is driven by a 10 year old boy's quest for a legendary fish vs. a villainous fishing captain's thirst for fame and fortune. Below the water's surface, the race is on, as a young fish teams with a group of spirited comrades to find and save his great aunt - the lake's most respected inhabitant. The story weaves between the human and fish worlds in an epic tale filled with humor, high-stakes, and edge of your seat adventure.

"Once again, Phil proved himself an Olympic script athlete, going the extra mile and running it in sub-ridiculous-deadline. Timothy Benson's, HOOKED, accepted at 2016 Animation Day in Cannes Cannes, France - Screenwriter Timothy M. Benson's flagship feature animation screenplay, HOOKED, a family-fun, fishing-themed adventure, has been recently honored by acceptance at the 2016 Animation Day in Cannes. HOOKED has exploded across the 2015-16 global film festival circuits, winning almost twenty screenwriting awards, including multiple Best Feature Screenplay honors. Benson was inspired to write HOOKED based on his own fishing adventures as a boy and his fascination with the theme of legend.

The story's high-concept is driven by a 10 year old boy's quest for a LEGENDARY fish vs. a villainous fishing captain's thirst for fame and fortune. Below the water's surface, the race is on, as a young fish teams with a group of spirited comrades to find and save his Great Aunt (the legendary behemoth Northern Pike fish known to humans as, "The Beast"). "Redreamers" a Finalist at 2015 Filmmakers International

My original, high concept script "Redreamers" reaches a new height.  First placing Quarterfinalist at 2015 Shore Scripts.  Now a Finalist at 2015 Filmmakers International.

What if all your dreams could be retrieved?  And the one dream you pick is played back to you as you pass away so you die believing that was actually the life you lived?  This concept weaves through the story centered around Mike, who turns to that technology to continue "living" with the family he lost in a car crash.  But when he meets a new woman, he must decide between fantasy and real life.

In The Black List coverage, the reader says: "There's something very relatable and compelling about this reality even though it is science fiction.  It's both escapist and tragic in a layered and clever way.  Plus, it's just a great pitch."

DeSantis Nominated for Culture & Heritage Award, 2016 FreshVoices Contest!

Mary DeSantis was recently notified that her Fantasy/Adventure script, Ashling, has been nominated for the 'Culture & Heritage Award' during the preliminary judging stage of the 2016 Fresh Voices Screenplay Contest.

"This script represents the myths and fables of Ireland with great reverence, which, despite the popularity of Western mythology in the fantasy genre, remains underrepresented," explained the Fresh Voices Judge as the reason for the nomination.

Ashling is set entirely in Ireland and features a strong female lead, a time travel element, mythological creatures, a romantic subplot, plus epic battles between humans, giants and elves.

IRISH FILM BOARD PRAISES FANTASY SCRIPT 'ASHLING'

The Irish Film Board has high praise for Mary DeSantis's Fantasy/Adventure screenplay, Ashling. The following are excerpted from IFB Readers' Reports, August 2015:

"Pulling together elements of stories such as Lord of the Rings, "Game of Thrones," Hunger Games and even Brave, this sprawling epic seems more suited to the expanse of a novel than a screenplay."

"...there's a hunger for these kinds of stories."

"Mythology-based fantasy adventure of epic proportions set in Ireland... Along the lines of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Beowulf... Very strong heroine... It has a lot of commercial elements and could be visually striking: big war/battle pieces, fantastical creatures, superpowers, romantic subplot, chess-style power games between groups, a ticking clock."

Phil Parker's spec script 'The Third Bomb' has wowed readers and judges again, this time at Screencraft in Los Angeles.

The WWII adventure that one Tracking Board reader said was "likely to attract top international talent", placed among the Top 10 FINALISTS at the 2015 Screencraft Action/ Thriller Screenplay Competition.

'The Third Bomb' tells the gripping story of an American pilot, shot down in Japanese territory, who must manually detonate his atomic weapon if he cannot stop an ambitious enemy commander from capturing it. An excruciating decision that becomes all the more difficult when the pilot discovers a POW camp nearby.

PHIL PARKER - PRAISED BY SCREENCRAFT

Off the back of his success with his multi-award winning screenplay, 'The Third Bomb', screenwriter Phil Parker was hired by director Josh Bryer to write a screenplay based on his original short script, Kindred - an action/ sci-fi set in the Australian Outback.

One Screencraft reader already has high praise for this rollicking adventure:

"(Kindred is) fantastic, adventurous, and loads of fun as it takes readers across The Outback, introduces them to uncommonly featured peoples, and manages to tell a story of grand proportions."

"The action and conflict were absolutely awesome... The stakes were high, the energy was great, and the fights were thrilling to read."

PHIL PARKER - PRAISED BY BLACK LIST

Great feedback continues to roll in for the Indigenous sci-fi script, ‘Kindred'!

The prestigious (and notoriously hard to please) film industry website, The Black List, had this to say about it:

"Kindred is imaginative, action-packed, and exciting... filled to the gills with obstacles and action, never letting the stakes or danger let up for even a moment... a thrilling story in a world with an interesting mythology and plot that doesn't stop moving."

The Black List reader gave ‘Kindred' a much sought after (and prayed-for) score of 8/10, putting them in the top 5% of scripts on the site for awhile.

Set in the Australian Outback - and with Indigenous Australians in several lead roles - Kindred is a rollicking adventure in the vein of District 9 and Star Wars. It tells the tale of one man's failed alien abduction and how he must work with his would-be captor to save humankind from extinction before the monsters from his past catch up with them.

Other Indigenous sci-fi has made the news recently with the exciting new series, ‘Cleverman‘ showing on the ABC in Australia and being picked up for a second season by SundanceTV in America

"Fascinating way to take us into a trial and jury deliberations -- and if you've ever had to serve on a trial, you'll identify. The question on the table -- did a father hit his son with a belt buckle -- was gripping. ...the play is full of movement and rhythm..."

"...a brilliant interpretation of the criminal trial process. As a lawyer, it was exceptionally enlightening to see the adversarial tone between prosecution and defense depicted as a flamenco dance. I loved every second in this artfully carved piece."

"The Beating is great theater ... If you've ever served on a jury or questioned the efficiency and effectiveness of our justice system, The Beating is a must see."

"... not your typical courtroom drama. What separates this production is the physicality of the show - sound effects, spontaneous tango dances, excellent use of the sparse set."

Erica & Bryan Diamond's screenplay TRIPLE receives honors Several years ago, I pulled our optioned script our of a direct to dvd and on demand film package, deciding we really had a gem on our hands we could polish.  To test our theory, we did as polish and submitted our script to various contest and competitions to see how it would do.  Our then titled Triple: A Dog's Story also Triple Effect, came in as a second-round finalist at the Austin Film Festival and the Nashville Film Festival. What really encouraged us to keep going with it however, was the fact after revision, our next draft placed as a semi-finalist at TWO different ISA-Sponsored TABLE READ MY SCREENPLAY contests, one at Austin and  the other at Sundance! Even better, we received such excellent notes from the Sundance ISA contest that we were able to take our presently titled, Triple: A Dog Story up several levels.  Our "gem" of a script has become a likely first place contest winner, as well as a project of interest to an A-list producer! Thank you ISA!!! Tags: Austin Film Festival Screenplay & Teleplay Competition, Nashville Film Festival Screenwriting Competition, Table Read My Screenplay - Screenplay Contest - Hwd
