Make Your Feature Competition

CONTEST DESCRIPTION

Think Project Greenlight meets Shark Tank...

In a sea of film competitions that award starter funds, offer packages towards gear, and sometimes even promise gateways of access to the elusive industry at large, We Make Movies is breaking the mold. WMM is helming a micro-budget feature film accelerator that will see your project through completion by actually making your movie for $25,000

Submissions are only open to Silver and Gold WMM members (submission fee includes year of membership.)

WMM has joined forces with investors from Silicon Valley, in search of multiple projects from inventive and resourceful filmmakers. Filmmakers will submit their feature film treatments (stellar concept or completed script) and pitch to investors and the WMM community for the opportunity to develop their story, from inception to completion. At least two winning filmmakers will land cash  investments of $25,000 each, in addition to tens of thousands of dollars worth of resources in the form of services, equipment, and more. WMM and the investors will partner with winning filmmakers, as project co-owners to produce the films in early 2022.

WHAT WE OFFER:

WMM & investors will finance your film for 25K
WMM will develop your film
WMM will produce your film

How Much Control Do I Have Over the Production Process?

We're using the same time tested Silicon Valley model of angel investors financing start-ups and the bringing the visions of entrepreneurs to life....but, this time the entrepreneurs are filmmakers.  As CEO of your film, you will get the budget, resources, and an ownership stake in the project in addition to the expectation that you and your team make a movie that lives up to mutually agreed upon expectations between you, WMM, and the investors involved.

No one wants to control you or the process, but high end deliverables will be expected along the way of the production process and like typical investment deals, any final decisions on the movie will lie with your investors.

We Make Movies will help along the way by outlining a prescribed production and post production workflow all projects will need to follow.  Final film deliverables will need to hit a "Netflix" or above level spec, but we'll make sure you have full guidance along the way. The goal of this competition is find the most efficient and practical way to execute your vision at the highest level possible.

While final decisions over content will be decided by WMM and investors, it benefits no one to create an independent film that is counter to its own creator's intentions.  WMM is looking  for long term, sustainable partnerships with its filmmakers AND its investors.  With our own reputation also on the line, we take the quality and direction of these movies as seriously as you do.

We will also provide any filmmaker who gets investment the opportunity to buy back the movie from WMM and the other investors prior to its premiere at WMMIntl 2022.  Details of how that will work will be released once semi-finalists have been selected

What Ownership or Rights Does WMM Have On My Project?

There will be an investor agreement that will be issued before pitching begins at the semi-finals.  In layperson terms, though, WMM will be the production company of merit for all the films, and investors will be paid their full investment back first, plus 20%. Once investors have fully recouped their initial investment,  1/3 of profits will go to investors, 1/3 will go to the filmmaking team, and 1/3 to We Make Movies. This is separate from any investment or deals made thereafter with additional investors or distributors pending their involvement.

How Do I Know My Project Can Be Made for $25,000?

Aim for a basic skeleton crew: DP, sound, lighting (depending on the aesthetics of the film) and maybe a few key people to help you with artistic elements that help elevate the film (production design, costuming, hair & makeup).
Aim for minimal casting if possible
In considering cast and crew positions, start by tapping into the people you already have a strong working relationship with. You need a cast and crew that understands your vision, is going to have your back, and will work to make your project the best it possibly can be.
Shooting days should try not to exceed more than 10-15 days.
In considering locations, start by using what free ones you have available to you in your back pocket, then consider favors from friends and family who might be willing to donate a location to help fulfill your passion project! Paid locations or studios are always an option for highly specific sets, but be conscious of how quickly they'll eat up your budget!
Remember, if you win, We Make Movies will be assisting with: Insurance
Pre-production Resources & Paperwork
Production Coordination
Access to camera and sound gear
Post-production (Sound Design, Color, & Deliverables)

How Many Projects Will Be Selected?

After submissions close on August 5th 2021, 36 projects will make it to the semi-final round, then 9 projects will move on to the finals. Ultimately, the jury will select AT LEAST 2 films to be produced as $25K micro-budget features.  More information on exact number of films will be announced in August prior to the Semi-Finals
