Official Rules and Regulations

All persons entering the Screenplay Competition must adhere to the following Competition Rules:

All intellectual property rights, ownership, and title to entries submitted remain the property of the entrant.  We assume no rights to your work.

  1. Entries must be submitted online in only PDF format.
  2. Competition is open to residents of Canada, the United States and their respective territories.
  3. All scripts must be submitted in English.
  4. Entry fees must be paid in U.S. dollars.
  5. Entry in the competition is void where prohibited by law.
  6. All online script entries must be under 10MB in file size.
  7. Writers 18 years of age and over are eligible to enter the competition, provided that entry does not violate any laws in your jurisdiction.
  8. Substitutions of new drafts or corrected pages will not be accepted. If you wish to submit a new draft you will need to enter the script again online and pay the appropriate fee.
  9. Competition judges, readers, and their immediate friends and families, are not eligible to enter the contest.
  10. Screenplays must be the original work of the author.
  11. We ask that only unrepresented/unproduced writers (at the time of submission) enter the competition. 
  12. Screenplays that have been produced, sold or optioned are not eligible for entry.
  13. The decisions of the judges are final.
  14. We suggest scripts be written in proper standard format. Anything not written in proper format will not proceed to final rounds.
  15. The Boathouse Group is not responsible for late or lost submissions.  
  16. Pages must be numbered, not including the title page.
  17. Once an entry payment has been processed, refunds will not be provided. 
  18. Please include a title page on your entry with the following contact information: title of your script, name of the author(s), telephone number and email address as well as any registration numbers for the work.
  19. All winners and official finalists will be notified by email at the conclusion of the contest at the address provided by the entrant at the time of entry.  It is your responsibility to make sure we have your current contact information.
  20. It is the winners' responsibility to redeem corresponding prizes. Prizes that are not redeemed after 90 days from the conclusion of the contest will not be delivered.
  21. Only full-length feature films will be accepted for submission. Scripts should adhere to the following guidelines: Minimum 70 pages to a maximum of 140 pages. Proper format should be presented and all scripts should be spell checked and edited prior to submitting. 
  22. By submitting your work to the contest, you agree that you have read and understand all of the contest rules and agree to hold us, our company, our employees, and partners harmless from all claims or liabilities.
