Are you looking for a screenwriting group for encouragement, support and just to yarn about great movies? Then come along to the Burbank Practical Screenwriting Group.
The focus will be on the practical elements of screenwriting rather than readings.
Meeting at the Canon Burbank facility (on West Olive St near Warner Bros Studios) means we have access to a screening room (awesome 4k projector) so the format will be: analyze examples of screenwriting in films, work through practical exercises based on a theme (premise, character arcs, etc) then group members can ask for assistance/suggestions/feedback for their screenplays.
Join us for the first practical screenwriting meetup where we will examine the underlying premise of a story. According to Lajos Egri, author of The Art of Dramatic Writing, the premise is the engine that drives a story - "premise is the motivating power behind everything we do."
In the first part of the meeting, we will view a few examples of films with strong premises before working on developing ones for our own screenplays.
In the second half, members can discuss their work for feedback and advice. Ideally, keep it to a particular issue that you need help with.
Screenwriting can be a lonely craft so the aim of this meetup group is to help screenwriters with practical exercises to build their craft and gain positive feedback and problem-solving for works in progress.
