EVENT DESCRIPTION

Meet on the Fox Studios backlot on June 25th for a StoryBoard Special Event! CASE STUDY: THE GRADUATE, an in-depth analysis and discussion of the classic 1967 screenplay led by Beverly Gray, author of Seduced by Mrs. Robinson!

Logline: An aimless college grad drifts through an affair with an older, married woman only to realize he’s in love with the woman’s daughter!

The Graduate is based on the 1963 novel by Charles Webb. Screenplay by Get Smart co-creator and twelve-time SNL host Buck Henry (Catch-22, What’s Up Doc?, Heaven Can Wait, To Die For), replacing an earlier, unused draft by Calder Willingham (Paths of Glory, Little Big Man, Rambling Rose). Nominated for 7 Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (Dustin Hoffman), Best Actress (Anne Bancroft), Best Supporting Actress (Katherine Ross), Best Picture, Best Cinematography (Robert Surtees), and winning the Oscar for Mike Nichols (Silkwood, Working Girl, Primary Colors, Closer) for Best Director.

About the moderator: As story editor and development executive for Roger Corman’s Concorde-New Horizons Pictures, screenwriter BEVERLY GRAY oversaw the making of 170 low-budget features. More recently, she has covered the entertainment industry for The Hollywood Reporter and currently teaches online screenwriting workshops for UCLA Extension’s Writers’ Program. She is the author of Roger Corman: Blood-Sucking Vampires, Flesh-Eating Cockroaches, and Driller Killers; Ron Howard: From Mayberry to the Moon...and Beyond; and her latest, Seduced by Mrs. Robinson: How The Graduate Became the Touchstone of a Generation.

Read the script before the meeting! Registration includes a copy of the screenplay sent to you in advance, plus sandwiches, snacks, and beverages at the meeting. BONUS: Plan to stick around after the discussion to watch The Graduate in its entirety on Blu-ray.

Screenplay Development Group | StoryBoardDG.com

Dedicated to the mastery of feature film screenwriting, analysis, and development since 1981, we meet on the Fox Studios lot for analysis and in-depth discussions of current feature film screenplays.

Our goal is to schedule screenplays for discussion at the time of their film’s release so we can talk about the writing and what is on the page before people are influenced by what is heard and seen on the screen. We encourage everyone to see the film afterward to see how it turns out and how well it transitioned from page to screen, as it can help improve your own screenwriting.

Each month a different industry professional leads our discussion. These are among the best teachers, authors, coaches, and consultants working in the entertainment industry. You will have the opportunity to meet each of them individually. Over time, with membership, you will experience a variety of analytical styles and approaches to the craft of screenwriting.

Guests and prospective members should be actively involved in screenwriting and/or filmmaking and be familiar with established screenwriting principles and structure.

StoryBoardDG.com also offers screenplay development workshops for members who have written or are attached to a screenplay. In these workshops, which are scheduled on a date other than our regular meetings, participating members will analyze and discuss your screenplay and offer constructive feedback. Workshopped scripts have been optioned, produced, received distribution deals, and won awards.
