Cady McClain, producer and director of the 5 hour serialized documentary Seeing is Believing: Women Direct, has a long history of activity in the arts, developing her eye in New York. In her 20's she studied theater directing with legendary artistic director of Ensemble Studio Theater, Curt Dempster. Her first self-produced project was a piece of performance art, which she wrote, produced, acted and co-directed. She pursued further study in her 30's with Nancy Chunn at The School of Visual Arts, creating giant multi-layered canvases and collages. This was followed by acceptance into NYU to study International Literature. During this time she made an album of music she wrote called BlueGlitterFish. She then switched to The New School and turned to writing, completing a memoir, Murdering My Youth, released in 2014. The book was featured in TV Guide Magazine and on Entertainment Tonight. In 2013 Cady wrote, directed and produced her first short film, Flip Fantasia. "Flip" enjoyed acceptance into the Macon Film Festival and gained a remarkable FB cult following of over 80K in Peru. Her second short film, The World of Albert Fuh, won Best Comedy Drama Short at the Ohio Indie Gathering. An official selection of the LA Indie FF, it premiered at the SOHO International Film Fest in NYC. Cady has won two Emmys for her acting work on daytime television.

Lee Daniels (Empire,) Christine Vachon (Carol,) Ken Burns (Jazz,) Alexander Payne (Nebraska,) Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man,) and 100 other leading indie filmmakers discuss how to avoid common pitfalls when making your first or second film:
