SPECIAL GUESTS: SHANNAN E. JOHNSON

Shannan E. Johnson

After receiving her MFA in Film (Screenwriting, TV Writing, Playwriting, Creative Writing… whew, that’s a lot.) from Florida State University, Shannan E. Johnson became a junior creative executive in development and current programming at NBCUniversal at the Syfy Channel. It was there that she honed her skill to guide writers and producers from pitch to production on Alphas, Being Human, Haven, Sanctuary, and Warehouse 13.
In 2010, Shannan left Syfy to join a dance company. Big step, right? She has spent the last eight years as a full-time performing and teaching artist traveling to 48 states and more than 18 countries. Credits include: (1st National Tours) Amazing Grace, Ghost the Musical; (Regional) Dreamgirls, Sister Act, How to Quit Your Day Job; (Dance Companies) Step Afrika!, Sole Defined.
While being on the stage, Shannan continued her passion for facilitating writers through their roadblocks as The Professional Pen, a script consultant for emerging and established writers in all stages of the writing process. Shannan prides herself in helping writers fill holes, provide dimension to characters, and most importantly, cut cut cut the unnecessary crap. It’s your baby, yes, but the bathwater has to go. The Professional Pen provides development notes, pitch preparation, revisions, rewrites, and ghostwriting. Competitions include: (Finalist) AT&T Hello Lab, Warner Bros. TV Workshop, WeScreenplay Diverse Voices Short Screenplay Competition, and Film Pipeline Short Script Competition. The Professional Pen is a writer for your writer.
