Becoming Betty Badass

Amy Sue Michalik, aka Betty Badass, comes with over 15 years of law enforcement experience.  She started her law enforcement career in 1998 as a Police Officer for the Atlanta Police Department in Southwest Atlanta, also known as Zone 4.  She was the only woman on her watch but it didn’t take long for her to earn the respect of the men she worked with.  As a matter of fact, it just took a punch in the nose. Shawty White, as she became known on her beat, made a reputation for being a tough cop who worked hard.

In 2002, Amy moved from the Atlanta Police Department to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).  As a Special Agent with ATF, Amy has worked many different types of cases in the ten plus years since she was hired.  Amy has worked in Atlanta, Georgia; Miami, FL; San Bernardino, CA and Glendale, CA.    Amy has worn many different hats in her career as well.  She has taught new Agents at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, been the Victim/Witness Coordinator and Senior Operations Officer in both Atlanta and Los Angeles, been specially chosen to work on two multi-agency Violent Crime Impact Teams (Miami & San Bernardino) and worked on the David Wilhelm Strike Force/Organized Crime & Drug Enforcement Task Force. In the middle of her Federal career, Amy found a love of screenwriting, and took the opportunity to transfer to the Los Angeles Field Division with ATF to chase her Hollywood Dream.  In 2012, after over 10 years with the ATF, Amy retired from the ATF.

In 2012, Amy had two stories published in the critically acclaimed book, Women Warriors: Tales from the Thin Blue Line.
