What is Story Coaching?

I do not read your script. Instead, I meet with you for a 90-minute to two-hour session—either in person or on a Skype video call, whichever you prefer— to discuss your story and characters through a series of targeted questions. I will focus on the challenges and weaknesses of the story structure, offering specific suggestions for improvements.

There will be ample time for feedback and brainstorming where appropriate. My goal is for you to leave with a clear picture of the strengths and weaknesses of your story and a road map for how to write (or rewrite) it.

So you do not need to read my script?

Correct.  Many of my professional writer clients prefer the story coaching option over a script consultation as it allows for more time and focus to explore and improve story structure and premise construction.

Is Story Coaching for before or after I have written my script?

Story Coaching sessions can be done at any stage in the process.  I work with writers still trying to figure out an outline and wanting to get off on a solid structural footing, writers stuck in the middle of a draft, and writers who have just completed their script and want advice for the rewrite.

What is your position on needing to use a particular structure paradigm?

Story Coaching sessions are strictly about helping writers find, refine and execute professionally satisfying, non-formulaic structure designed to enhance, instead of destroy, what is unique and original about their story, characters and writing.
