My name is Diane, and I received my B.A. from Columbia University, with a double major in Film Studies and Literature/Writing. While I was in New York, I also interned with Little Magic Films (an affiliate of Toshiba in Japan), Focus Features, and Darren Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures. I read many, many scripts.
I then briefly moved to Los Angeles, where I worked as a development assistant for an independent producer (again, reading many, many scripts), but when my visa ran out, I moved to Toronto, where I worked as Director's Assistant to Darren Lynn Bousman (director of SAW II-IV). Then I went to grad school.
I got my M.F.A. in Writing for the Screen + Stage at Northwestern University, but also took every opportunity to take electives in production and directing (since I consider myself a writer/director). I have made numerous short films as a result, and can read scripts with an eye to production issues and budget. While I was at Northwestern, I also had the opportunity to teach the undergraduate Introduction to Screenwriting course.
During the summer between my two years at Northwestern, I returned to L.A., where I again worked several internships, this time with Intruder Films, Ken Kwapis' In Cahoots Entertainment, and - most excitingly - as Director's Apprentice to Richard J. Lewis on the set of CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION. It gave me a good grasp of how television production works.
After I graduated, I moved to Toronto, where I spent 3 years working for the Toronto International Film Festival in their Sales & Industry Office. My job was to be in touch with all the producers and sales agents of each of the 350+ official selections, coordinating their ticketing needs for their public screenings (so they could bring their cast, crew, and any potential distributors). As a result, I also have a good grasp of what film festivals look for, and how film sales operate.
I now own and operate my own company, Liliath & Penumbra, through which I offer script analysis and story-editing/script consulting services, and use the profits to fund my own productions.
Liliath & Penumbra is fully incorporated, and I am able to help clients in both Canada and the U.S. All rates include any potential applicable taxes.
