Nantucket Film Festival\'s Screenplay Competition

CONTEST DESCRIPTION

Showtime’s Tony Cox Screenplay Competition recognizes an emerging screenplay as the best from the pool of submissions each year. The competition gives writers the opportunity to have their scripts read by a prestigious jury, receive top industry recognition, participate in a Festival focused specifically on screenwriting, including a Mentor’s Brunch with the Festival’s Screenwriters Tributee (last year\'s was David O. Russell), and win over $7,000 in total cash prizes.

PRIZES

Winner of Showtime’s Tony Cox Feature Film Screenplay Competition receives:

  • $5,000 cash prize from the Nantucket Film Festival;
  • All expenses paid, month­ long stay at the exclusive Screenwriter’s Colony on Nantucket in October;
  • VIP week­long Nantucket Film Festival Pass to all events;
  • Round­ trip from New York to Nantucket to attend Film Festival;
  • Accommodations in Nantucket during the Film Festival;
  • A Showtime­sponsored reception during the Film Festival in the winner’s honor;
  • Participation in Mentor’s Brunch with Screenwriters Tribute recipient during the Film Festival;

  • Participation in Mentor’s Brunch with Screenwriters Tribute recipient during the Film Festival;

Winner of Showtime’s Tony Cox Television Pilot (Half Hour ­Long noted here as "Other") Competition receives:

  • $1,000 cash prize from the Nantucket Film Festival;

  • Attend Showtime ­sponsored reception during the Film Festival;
  • Participation in Mentor’s Brunch with Screenwriters Tribute recipient during the Film Festival;

Rules

ENTERING PROCEDURE:
  • Screenplays must be submitted electronically via email at submissions@nantucketfilmfestival.org or www.withoutabox.com;
  • Screenplays must have a title page; which includes only the title. Please Note: THE APPLICANT'S NAME MUST NOT APPEAR ON THE COVER OR ANY OTHER PAGE OF THE SCREENPLAY. JUDGES MUST NOT BE AWARE OF THE ENTRANT'S NAME. SCREENPLAYS THAT INCLUDE THE APPLICANT’S NAME ON THE COVER OR IN THE BODY OF THE SCREENPLAY WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED.
  • Entry must include an online application. Keep records of your entry for reference.
  • There is no limit to the number of submission per entrant, provided that separate entries and fees accompany each submission.
ENTRY FEE:
  • Send entry fees in U.S. funds only, payable to the Nantucket Film Festival, or pay online by credit card.
  • Entry fees will not be returned.
  • The Festival reserves the right to impose a $20 surcharge for returned checks.
  • Finalists will be notified by early June.

IMPORTANT:If a screenplay wins the Showtime Tony Cox Screenplay Competition Award and is produced, we ask for the following credit to be included: “Winner of the Nantucket Film Festival Showtime Tony Cox Screenplay Competition Award.” 

 

CATEGORY SPECIFIC RULES: 

FEATURE
  •  Screenplays must be standard feature length (80-125 pp.) and standard U.S. format only;
  • Screenplays may not have been produced;
  • Screenplays must be copyrighted or WGA registered (http://www.wgaeast.org);
  • Screenplays must be in English;
  • Adaptations are welcome;
  • Collaborations are welcome. 
  • Screenplays must be completed by entry deadline. 
SHORT
  • Short screenplays must be 40 pages or shorter; 
  • Screenplays must be standard U.S. format only;
  • Screenplays may not have been produced;
  • Screenplays must be copyrighted or WGA registered (http://www.wgaeast.org);
  • Screenplays must be in English;
  • Adaptations are welcome;
  • Collaborations are welcome;
  • Screenplays must be completed by entry deadline. 
HOUR LONG TV PILOT
  • TV screenplays must be standard TV length (25-30 pages for 30 min shows and 45-60 pages for one hour shows);
  • TV screenplays must be for an original show. We do not accept spec screenplays for or spinoffs of existing shows; 
  • We do not accept scripts for Reality TV shows;
  • Multiple episodes for a TV series should be entered to the competition individually; 
  • Screenplays must be standard U.S. format only;
  • Screenplays must not have been produced;
  • Screenplays must be copyrighted or WGA registered (http://www.wgaeast.org);
  • Collaborations are welcome;
  • Screenplays must be in English;
  • Screenplays must be completed by entry deadline. 
30 MIN TV PILOT (NOTED HERE IN CATEGORIES/GENRES AS "OTHER" CATEGORY)
  • TV screenplays must be standard TV length (25-30 pages for 30 min shows and 45-60 pages for one hour shows);
  • TV screenplays must be for an original show. We do not accept spec screenplays for or spinoffs of existing shows;
  • We do not accept scripts for Reality TV shows;
  • Multiple episodes for a TV series should be entered to the competition individually;
  • Screenplays must be standard U.S. format only;
  • Screenplays must not have been produced;
  • Screenplays must be copyrighted or WGA registered (http://www.wgaeast.org);
