Hi amazing writers! I am in the process of Thesis Prep starting next semester and I am looking for an exceptional screenwriter to partner with on my script. It would be a 16-page screenplay.
The story follows a migrant family from Guatemala into Mexico to the U.S. border where they are forced apart and their child taken away. I wanted to shed light on this horrific policy. The dialogue will be in Spanish.
As it is my thesis, there is no pay. I know. I know. But as it is my thesis, I want the story to be the strongest it can be. I am an okay, writer but I am more a director than a writer. I had a meeting today with JuVee Productions (Viola Davis' production company) and they said the same thing. That my directing style/vision is strong but my screenplay/story was not so strong.
I am currently a director mentee in Ryan Murphy's director program and I have agents from CAA, WMA and Gersh watching me. So I really need a strong thesis. Also, I am the assistant director on the USC thesis film that just won the student academy silver award this year. So I know asking anyone to volunteer their time is not cool, but I'd love to meet a strong writer to partner with on this and hopefully continue to work with in the future.
This is a serious, heartbreaking, harrowing drama that embodies the true life struggles these migrants face trying to make it to America. I have been using documentaries and such to understand their dangerous trek. If true story dramas are something you like to write and are interested in sharing your amazing storytelling/screenwriting skills with a USC grad student, I would love to hear from you!
