Looking for a talented screenwriter to transform a 20 min draft of a narrative film to be camera ready. Must have an understanding of character-driven storytelling and willingness to weave in experimental sequences. Screenwriter will be collaborating with a non-screenwriter on material, so ability to collaborate is a plus.
This film is intended to go on tour to be a conversation starter opening up an emotional conversation about the climate crisis and how these seemingly unrelated topics hold a common core: disconnection - from other organisms, each other, our nation’s past, and ourselves.
Comfortability with topics such as: social & eco justice, white fragility, American colonial history, and sexual/gender identity is a plus. LGBT+, BIPOC, Disabled, and other underrepresented writers are especially encouraged to reach out!
The screenwriter will be given credit, a final copy of the film, and a stipend payment. If interested please submit a Cover Letter (introducing yourself and anything relevant to this brief, along with any links to past projects), Resume and Writing Samples.
The short film follows the coming of age of Bea, a young white child, who in learning about climate change, discovers their own white privilege, and the weight of America’s colonial history. As they grapple with this knowledge, they move from feeling that they alone must change the world, to disconnecting and numbing out, to recognizing that healing the past and change starts from within. They realize that they must accept themselves as non-binary and start their own healing journey and be a part of the collective change. This film is intended to be a conversation starter on how these seemingly unrelated topics hold a common core: disconnection - from other organisms, each other, our nation’s past, and ourselves.
