All my life I've been fascinated with writing. Wrote my first book at age 25 in Germany. (admittedly, it was a technical booklet in my area of expertise: Electronics). Emigrated to the USA east coast in 1985 and started writing newsletters, translations, articles.
Upon moving to the West Coast in 1992 I made a major commitment to writing sports newsletters and working in the sport of tennis. I also began acting in film, TV, and theater. In 2016 I decided to follow my dream and write my first feature script about a subject I was very passionate about, Female Empowerment.
We are seeing today that women have the power and the ability to bring about change. Example: the #MeToo movement. What would you say if women in the Middle East create an equally powerful movement that grows so strong it can overthrow governments?
My dream of that happening started in the aftermath of 9/11. It came to me: Men cannot solve the problems in the Middle East because they ARE the problem. It’s the women that have to rise up and start a real revolution, march by the millions and overthrow governments.
That’s why I decided to write the feature film script THE MARCH. I created a revenge killing plot where the female protagonist is the hero, and unknowingly creates a worldwide movement of women to rise and march by the millions. The story plays in Afghanistan and my cultural advisor is Nushin Arbabzadeh, renowned Afghan author, BBC Commentator and current UCLA lecturer.
It took a year and a half and many re-writes until The March became what it is today. So far, The March has won several prizes in film festivals:
2018 Moondance International Film Festival (Boulder, CO) - 1st place winner
2018 Los Angeles Film Awards (L.A.) - 1st place winner
2018 Big Apple Film Festival Screenplay Competition (NY, NY) - 2nd place winner
2018 Best Independents International Film Festival (Germany) - Finalist
2018 Near Nazareth Festival (Israel) - Finalist
2018 Story Pros International Screenplay Contest (Woodland Hills, CA) - Official Selection
I am currently writing an action TV Pilot (titled River Rats) that plays in the El Paso / Juarez area of the Rio Grande, the border between Texas and Mexico. My collaborator on this script is international performer, actor and activist Maria Conchita Alonso.
