We’re primarily looking for the kind of mid-budget movie for adults, ones that would do well theatrically as well as fit right in on a streaming platform. Scale-wise, this can go relatively big on budget, but it needs to be something with both market appeal and mainstream sensibilities, with an eye toward awards.
Comparison titles: Spotlight, Wolf of Wall Street, Dark Waters, Erin Brockovich, Catch Me if You Can, Capote, American Hustle, 127 Hours, Into The Wild, The Fighter, The Farewell, Escape From Alcatraz, and Midnight Express.
Looking at examples like Capote, True Stories and True Crime often go hand-in-hand, and that’s okay! True Crime stories work very well here too. Movies like Lost Girls, Monster, The Snowtown Murders and Foxcatcher are great examples of this.
We are NOT looking for big historical epics like Schindler’s List. History is of course a treasure trove of true story content, but we’re not looking for mega-budget movies like Lincoln or Gangs of New York. There is a healthy budget involved, but again, think mid-budget adult fare, as opposed to epics.
Very big bonus to writers and projects with a pedigree. Meaning, if your project or you/yourself have won or placed highly in multiple contests or fellowships, or have been produced in the past, please notate that when submitting.
When submitting, please include your SCRIPT, a SYNOPSIS and a thoroughly developed LOGLINE – please do not only write a tag line or blurb. We want to know your concept and hook within the logline. We will narrow our selection from the synopsis and logline, so you’ll want to put your best foot forward.
Union and non-union writers accepted.
Scripts from anywhere in the world will be considered but must be in English language.
NOTE: An “ISA-verified producer” means it is a respected industry professional/company with means to fund projects that suit their mandate. They wish to remain private and have entrusted the ISA to vet and find content to send to them.
