72 Script Fest

CONTEST DESCRIPTION

Writers will have 72 hours to write a short screenplay. The writer of the winning screenplay will get to choose the production team that will adapt their short into a film. Half of the registration fees (minus the $250 prize) will go towards the shooting budget of the film. Up to Two Runner Ups will also be produced by a past team.

PRIZES

The winner receives $250 and their choice of team from the Team Pool to adapt their winning short screenplay into a film.  The Film will premiere at 72 Film Fest 2014.

Rules

Participating Writers will have 72 hours to write a 8-10 page short script based on specific criteria given out to each writer. The winning writer will choose from a pool of teams to adapt their screenplay into a short film that will premiere at 72 Film Fest in October.

 

APRIL- JULY
1. Writers Register.
2. Writers Get their Writing Assignment on June 19th at 9pm.
3. Writers Turn in Their Script by June 22nd at 9pm.
4. Writer (Semi) Finalists Announced around Third Week of July.
5. Writer Winner and Runner Up Announced by Mid August.
6. Writer Winner Chooses a Team to Adapt their short into a Film.
7. Writer Winner receives $250 Cash.

 

SEPTEMBER
8. Team Receives half of registration Fees (minus $250 to writer) as BUDGET for film.
8. Team and Writer work to REVISE the script based on Budget and Cast/Crew needs/abilities.
9. Team shoots movie (with up to 4 days on RED EPIC CAMERAS Provided by ARCHAI MEDIA). The Chosen Team does not have to make movie in 72 hours. It must be completed before LAUNCH on October 2nd 2014.

 

OCTOBER
10. Film PREMIERES at 72 Film Fest 2014 on October 11th.

 

SMALLER PRINT:
Winning Writer will choose 3 teams from a volunteer pool of past 72 Film Fest Finalists. If circumstances prevent the first choice from adapting the screenplay, the screenplay will be given to the second choice and so on.

 

Chosen Team will have over a month to develop, shoot and edit the short film. Chosen Team can use up to 4 shooting days with Archai Media’s a Red Epic Camera providing an Archai Media tech is on set as Assistant Camera or Director of Photography. Team is not required to use the Red Epic camera in part or full, and is not required to limit their entire shooting schedule to only those 4 days.

 

All rights to all screenplay submissions remain with the writers, except the winning script which will become property of 72 Film Fest and the winning team for the sole purpose of adapting into a short film. Any further adaptation by any party must include all parties permission.

I reside outside of Maryland, USA.  Can I participate in 72 Script Fest? 

Absolutely.  The contest is open internationally.  The only requirement is for judging purposes, the script must be in English.

 

Will teams be getting the 72 Script Fest Finalist’s scripts as criteria in 72 Film Fest 2014?
No. 72 Film Fest’s criteria and theme is different every year. The theme for 2014 is —— (to be revealed in clues and at our Theme Reveal Party in September).

 

What is the criteria for the Script Fest? 

Each writer will receive individual criteria randomly generated at 9pm June 19th. We like to keep the criteria secret but to give you an idea- It may be simple things like genres, locations, settings, characters, lines of dialogue or it might be something else entirely.

 

I am a past team and I would like to be part of the Team Pool. How does that work?.

If you are an award winner from ANY year, or a Finalist from 2013, you can volunteer to be in the team pool. We will post your team name and links to your past entries so the writers can watch your entries. Simply sign up before the Script Fest Finalists are announced. Information on how to signup will be posted here in the coming weeks.

 

I was on a team that was a finalist in 72 Film Fest before… if I win 72 Script Fest can I choose my own team to adapt my film? 

Yes, providing your team was 1) A Winner from any year or a Finalist in 2013. 2) Your team volunteers to be a part of 72 Script Fest before the Finalists are announced.
