From page to production, from production to profession, the Brownfish Short Film Festival NYC seeks bold, creative, new voices in filmmaking and screenwriting. Officially Selected screenplays receive a staged reading with professional actors in New York City during the festival along with an audio copy of the reading.
BSFFNYC 2012 Prize Packages included:
The festival will accept submissions until August 1, 2013.
1. Brownfish Short Film Festival NYC accepts submissions for short screenplays in the categories of Comedy and Drama.
2. Screenplays must be 15 pages or less. Title page is not included in the page count.
3. Screenplays must have been completed in the past year (12 months).
4. Screenplay submissions must be in English.
5. All submissions must include a completed application form. Online applications must include the screenwriter's Withabox Tracking Number if applicable.
6. Screenplays may be submitted by mail, email or online. Hard-copy submissions will not be returned. Online submissions must be one of the following file types: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .txt, .rtf. Do NOT submit Final Draft or Movie Magic files.
7. Screenplays must be properly formatted within industry standards. Screenplays not formatted in screenplay format will be disqualified.
8. Title page must include: Title, Logline, Contact information (address, email, etc), and Without a box tracking number if applicable.
9. Multiple entries must be submitted individually with accompanying materials and fees.
10. Payment may be be made by credit card through Withoutabox.com or by check/money order payable to BROWNFISH.COM.
11. Filmmakers eligible for the STUDENT RATE must provide supporting documentation stating student's name, institution name and current date/term such as a valid student I.D., report card, or tuition bill.
12. ALL SUBMISSION FEES ARE PER SCRIPT IN $US AND ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
13. All physical submissions must include a printed application form, a printed copy of the script and check or money order for all fees made payable to BROWNFISH.COM. 14. Screenplays must be of original content. Adaptations of copyrighted material WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. FEATURE FILMS, TELEPAYS and PILOTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Screenwriters indemnify and hold harmless Brownfish.com, Brownfish Short Film Festival NYC and its affiliates against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses including but not limited to attorney's fees, and court costs which may be incurred by any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening/reading, and loss or damage of screenplays entered.
15. Filmmakers grant the Brownfish.com, Brownfish Short Film Festival NYC and its agents the rights to use Titles and Loglines from accepted films for print and online marketing and publicity purposes.
16. Screenwriters of Official Selection screenplays accepted to participate in the Brownfish Short Film Festival NYC will be notified by email approximately September 7, 2012.
17. Official Selection screenplays will receive a live table reading in a festival program to be determined by the Brownfish Short Film Festival NYC.
18. The Brownfish Short Film Festival NYC is a judged contest with cash and prize awards. Prize packages T.B.A.
Every screenplay submitted to the BSFFNYC is read in its entirety from opening "Fade In" to "Fade Out." We do not toss aside you submission if we are not grabbed right away.
BSFFNYC does not waive submission fees. The cash awards given to winning filmmakers and screenwriters is generated by submission fees.

Screenwriters of Officially Selected screenplays receive an all access Festival Badge granting access to all festival screenings, readings, workshops, parties and events.
All Officially Selected films and screenplays are judged by a national, indepent panel of working professionals. They score the screenplays with a rating of 1 - 10 in several screenwriting categories such as story, character, conflict, dialogue and more. All the judges' ratings are averaged together to determine a submission's final score.
The screenplay with the highest score wins for each competition category: Comedy and Drama.
The 2013 Judges list is T.B.A. Often we will announce additions to our judging panel through our Facebook page.
