Stowe Story Labs

CONTEST DESCRIPTION

Stowe Story labs is a nonprofit dedicated to helping top emerging screenwriters, filmmakers and creative producers get work made and seen. The Fall Lab is the entry point for further development opportunities, including writers' retreats, ongoing mentoring programs, crowdfunindg opportunities and structured market participation opportunities. Beyond its programs, Stowe Story Labs welcomes you into a network of peers and industry professionals to build work in this collaborative art and business.

Application Season will open on February 14, 2019.

Stowe Story Labs brings emerging screenwriters, filmmakers and creative producers from around the world together with seasoned industry professionals to help get projects made and seen.

The four-day intensive program features:
  • Skill development and focus on story structure, character and theme; conversation about story; packaging; elements of creative production; casting; adaptation; and finance and distribution
  • Direct access to working industry professionals, top in their fields
  • Opportunities to build knowledge, skills and insights to navigate the film industry
  • A network of talented peers, vital in this collaborative art and business workshop, roundtable and social time
  • A beautiful setting to develop your craft!

All lab participants in 2019 will receive a 1 year ISA Connect membership ($100 value)

Our host of top industry mentors include people such as:

  • Award-winning UK-based Creative Producer Alex Boden (CLOUD ATLAS, SENSE8)
  • Academy Award-winning Screenwriter and Producer David Magee (FINDING NEVERLAND, LIFE OF PI)
  • Award-winning Iconic Casting Director Ellen Parks (SIDEWAYS, SECRETARY)
  • Academy Award nominated Creative Producer Amy Hobby (SECRETARY, WHAT HAPPENED, MISS SIMONE?)

Each Lab is limited in size. We look for applicants who demonstrate talent, a fantastic story idea and a commitment to learning skills necessary to get work made and seen in this complex and collaborative industry. We do not at the labs offer script notes on each project but instead focus on story structure, theme, character and genre.

Fellowships to the lab are described here. We as well offer meaningful partial scholarships.

In addition, through our lodging partners, we are able to offer participants good discounts on rooms around Stowe, many of which include full breakfast. We make sure there is plenty of food and drink through the day and evening, so food cost as well is kept to a minimum.

PRIZES

Admission to the Labs and additional programming is highly competitive.

We offer competitive fellowships and partial scholarships to top candidates. Fellowship recipients receive a full fee waiver and other benefits as outlined on our website.

Partial Scholarship recipients receive up to 50% fee waivers.

We are proud to partner with ISA to offer a fellowship to our annual fall lab.  There is NO ADDITIONAL charge to submit for our fellowships! For more information visit www.stowestorylabs.org/fellowships
