Jeff McMahon is a graduate of Adelaide University with a Bachelor Degree in Economics, and Russian History.He began his writing career scripting pre-school children’s TV before moving into advertising & marketing, and co-publishing a community news-magazine. He soon found he had a penchant for comedy after attending a course by the late Barry Took, comedy writing partner of the late Marty Feldman.
He is now a screenwriter and novelist with several screenplays currently on the market, including:
'Good Country', a drama set in the S-E of Australia (dealing with the conflict between agriculture and mining interests),
and four romantic-comedies set in the US:
‘Once Bitten’; semi-finalist in 2015 Creative World Awards;
‘New Deli,’ set in Brooklyn, (awarded second place in the 2017 New York Metropolitan Screenplay Competition, and semi-finalist in several others including the 2017 The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival and 2019 Chicago Screenplay Competition),
‘Positive Aging in Happy Valley’ (…it’s a funny thing, dementia), awarded semi-finalist in the 2019-20 Miami Screenplay Competition, and;
‘The Legend of Willie Telberg and Son’, semifinalist in the Chicago Screenplay Awards.
'What a Woman Needs' - female-driven comedy.
Other screenplays still in development include the horror 'Ruebens and Hyde' and the drama adaptation of the (unpublished) novel 'Legacies'.
With two completed novels (‘Legacies’, and ‘Sojourn’), he also has a work-in-progress thriller in the style of Stephen King’s ‘Stand By Me’.
As a writer benefiting from several years' experience performing in live theatre, and in various media, Jeff has developed an appreciation of the intricacies involved in character development in all writing platforms.
