As a filmgoer:
I'm into aesthetically natural films that incorporate subtle doses of science-fiction and/or fantastical elements. British humor is king. I love gritty and hypnotically realistic movies that make it difficult to breathe (e.g. Uncut Gems, Enter the Void).
As a writer:
I lean on magical realism and surreal dark humor to illuminate the sort of offbeat subject matter that tends to spark my imagination. I love to explore the strange and other-worldly through a realistic yet absurd lens. My screenplay Cannonballs: An American Revision scored in the top 15% of the 2021 Nicholl Fellowship competition and advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2021 Screencraft Horror competition. My current project is a darkly fantastical coming-of-age fable set in the jungles of the Philippines, inspired by Philippine mythology and the capitalistic exploitation of indigenous lives.
Influences:
Safdie brothers, Coen brothers, Charlie Kaufmann, Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Tarantino, Tim Burton, Hal Ashby, Mike Leigh, Mikchael Haneke, PTA, Denis Villeneuve, Inárritu, Ruben Ostlund, Weerasethakul
Professional background:
I run a successful content marketing and translation agency, which affords me ample time to write as well as the financial means to participate in the film projects I'm involved in as a writer. I've been writing as a hobby since 2002. I've been pursuing screenwriting as a profession since 2021.
