Angela Murphy

Screenwriter

Biography

Angela has worked in film, video and television for over 25 years.  After graduating from Northwestern University in the theater and film departments, Angela co-founded The Practical Theatre Company in Chicago, which became Second City’s biggest rival.  Within a few years, the company had a successful 200 seat cabaret theater, a 49 seat experimental theater, a touring company and a children’s group.

She wrote, directed and produced a weekly television program through Evanston’s ECTV for two years and wrote for “The Magic Door,” a television program on CBS-Chicago. As President of Women in Film (WIF) in Chicago in the mid 1990s she developed monthly educational programs and increased membership 75%.  During that time she wrote and directed a video fundraising and promotional piece for the Women’s Business Development Center, which generated significant support and introduced potential members to their work.

Shortly after her 18 months as WIF President, Angela moved to Los Angeles where she worked as a freelance television writer and producer for documentary style films and television programs that appeared on NBC, A&E, and the Discovery Channel. After five years as a freelance producer, she became the Media Director and Operations Manager at the Agape International Spiritual Center, where she directed weekly four-camera live shoots until 2006 when she moved to the San Francisco Bay area.

At The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) in Petaluma, CA, Angela was hired as the Shift in Action Program director and after a few years became the Director of Media, Membership and Marketing.  She created several video series for IONS including the award-winning “Consciousness Matters” and the award-winning documentary film, Death Makes Life Possible with Deepak Chopra and Petaluma Pictures.

Mark Krigbaum and Angela established Petaluma Pictures in 2013 and have created live streaming video for a number of clients in addition to online educational programs, social media and marketing promotion.

Angela has written feature film and television pilot scripts which have received positive interest from Amazon, Apple, CBS, Disney, Freeform, Lionsgate, Netflix, Searchlight, and Sony Pictures.
