Biography

Tina Juárez was born in Carrizo Springs, a rural south Texas town a few miles north of the Rio Grande. Because of her love of language and literature, Tina majored in English and Spanish at Texas A&M University at Kingsville. 

After graduation, Tina taught in schools populated by students from economically challenged backgrounds. While continuing to teach, Tina earned an M.ED. in Educational Administration at Texas State University in San Marcos and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin. She was named the first Hispanic principal of Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas. She served as an Adjunct Professor of Educational Administration at the University of Texas at Austin and is the author of numerous articles in professional journals and the co-author of a text on the history of student evaluation in American education. 

Tina's historical novel, CALL NO MAN MASTER (University of Houston: Arte Publico Press), received the Violet Crown Award, presented by the Austin Writers' League for the best work of fiction. Praised for its authenticity and attention to detail by historians of colonial Mexico, it was a featured book in the Texas Book Festival. The sequel to CALL NO MAN MASTER, SOUTH WIND COME (University of Houston: Arte Publico Press), was reprinted in part in the DALLAS MORNING NEWS.

Her screenplay, LABYRINTH OF DESTINY, was a finalist in the 2018 Academy Nicholl Fellowship Screenwriting Competition, the 2020 Final Draft Big Break Screenplay Competition (Diversity Category), the 2021 Golden Script Competition (Scotland), the 2022 Vail Film Festival Screenplay contest, the 2023 Screenwriter's Network International Screenplay Competition (United Kingdom) and the 2023 Dallas International Screenwriting Competition.

Her screenplay, THE BANNER, is a semifinalist in the 2024 Academy Nicholl Screenwriting Competition. It was the Grand Prize Winner in both the 2021 Cynosure Screenwriting Competition and the 2021 WriteMovies Screenplay Contest. It was a finalist in the 2022 Vail Film Festival Screenplay contest, the 2023 Los Angeles International Screenplay Competition, the 2023 Golden Script Screenplay Competition (Scotland), the 2023 Filmmatic Screenplay Awards and the 2023 Screenwriter's Network Screenplay Competition (United Kingdom). It was the First Place Winner in the 2024 Hispanic International Screenplay Competition and the 2024 Chicago Script Awards. 

Her script SOUTH WIND COME is a finalist in the 2024 Page International Screenplay Competition and a semifinalist in the 2024 Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition. It was a finalist in the 2023 Los Angeles International Screenplay Competition. It is a Second Rounder in the 2024 ISA Fast Fellowship Program.
