She was recently invited to be one of six tv screenwriters chosen in Canada to participate in the TV Screenwriters Talent Program with Showrunner Jennica Harper (hit tv series on HULU and CTV, JANN) and worked in the writers room developing an episode.
Helene grew up in the same neighborhood as Douglas Coupland and she’s a Generation X’r of the highest order. A cynical childfree Canadian, Helene moved to New York months after 9/11 and worked the first Tribeca Film Festival alongside development coordinator Sharon Badal, a script reader for Times Square’s Film Centre and ABC’s Primetime comedy and drama department. She worked in NYC's film and TV scene for 17 years in front and behind the camera and witnessed the incredible writing of Liz Brixius and Linda Wallem (Nurse Jackie) and Peter Berg (Prime Suspect). She co-starred in HULU’s Anyone But Me, it’s first high school lesbian tv series. She received a Playwright Masters opportunity with LAByrinth Theater Company (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and learned from playwright legends such as John Patrick Shanley (Doubt, Moonstruck) and Jose Rivera (Motorcycle Diaries). She eventually worked at LAByrinth and witnessed the words of Stephen Adly Guirgis be performed by Eric Bergosian and Sam Rockwell as their script coordinator. She studied sketch comedy at Upright Citizens Brigade and punched up jokes for comedians as a side gig. She wrote and produced an unscripted television program for her Vancouver community bordering Point Roberts for several years. Her writer’s voice often reflects under-served characters where they discover the gusto to fight for themselves with storylines torn out of her life, headlines or inspired by IP. Helene writes projects ranging from short film, to full-length feature, Web and TV series. Recent writing projects include the award winning play and script DISCORd, short films, BUREAU 121 (Top 25 Table Read My Screenplay Hollywood, Quarter-Finalist ScreenCraft, Diversity Feedback Film Festival, Script to Screen Summit, The Crime List), SUCKER (Best Drama Hollywood Just4Shorts, Best unproduced script London International Film Festival), and tv pilot, ALL THE RAVE (Austin Revolution Film Festival, Top 15 The Red List) and web-series FLAT-CHESTED FRAN (Finalist, Barnstorm Media, Top 15 The Red List). She is a published short story and poetry writer, and a recipient of the Canadian Cable Television Programming Excellence Award.
