Helene Taylor's a cynical, childfree orphan of the forgotten Generation X, she comes from hard-working blue collar immigrants, a first-generation Canadian who moved 25 times until she lived in Jersey City, New Jersey and helped her spouse navigate working with the mob for seventeen long years. (She may know who buried Hoffa for realsies). Helene worked in front and behind the scenes in the film industry in New York on features, long running television series (Nurse Jackie) and the odd straight to video movie (they're big in Japan) she doesn't like to talk about it because she may or may not have had to dress as an S&M Dominatrix. Shhh.
Her writing tone reflects her many adventures - her point of view is clearly to pronounce the elephant in the room whether it's wanted or not. Her voice reflects complicated, curious and interesting characters in stages of life where they've been made to fight for the underdog, be the underdog, fight the system of mad dogs or just plain love on dogs. Her ascerbic wit combined with a bittersweet quality lends itself to humor in dramatic settings, or drama in hilarious circumstances and range from over the top action comedy features (comparables The Spy Who Dumped Me) to smaller, low budget web-series (comparable PEN15) about the angst of growing up. Her characters are unique and interesting with storylines torn out of the latest headlines, history or inspired by IP.
A Filmmatic Finalist & 20+ laurels for her recent body of plays, tv, web & film writing. She currently works in Vancouver, Canada as a screenwriter. Her current projects are developing a short to feature with writing partner Jax Smith and polishing her 30-minute tv comedic series The Grifter Sisters based off a local Witness Protection Program gone awry, with her writing group Maple Scribes. Her non-fiction magazine style comedic writing has won her a Canadian Cable Television Award.
