Katy Dore discovered the power of storytelling at age eight, when she wrote a picture book to persuade her brother to take his medicine. Convinced she saved his life, she’s been a firm believer ever since that stories can change lives and minds. Her screenwriting features protagonists in search of their voices, and her work has earned accolades including being a featured script on The Black List, inclusion on the Cannes Screenplay List, and a live read at the Austin Film Festival.
As a director, Katy has brought several award-winning short films to life, as well as an action feature that sheds light on the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People.
She holds a BA from Stanford University and an MFA from the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Before turning full-time to storytelling, Katy taught U.S. History and American Government and ran a successful design and marketing firm for 25 years. A series of spinal surgeries eventually forced her to pause—giving her time to reflect on how to intentionally spend the rest of her “wild and precious life.” Since then, she’s been writing, directing, and acting.
When she’s not working on a project, you’ll find Katy board-boarding, fly-fishing, or on the tennis court.
