K.Page Stuart Valdes is a New York-based filmmaker, musician, writer and educator. Her extensive national work in the fields of social emotional learning, culturally responsive teaching, and conflict resolution has taken her to every borough of NYC, to schools where over 53 home languages were spoken, and to Native American reservations across the country. These experiences have influenced her creative practice and vice versa. As such, much of her work, whether it be in film, music, music theater, or published writing explores the intersection of culture, conflict, and connection in the diverse landscape in which we live.  Her short, We Got This, for which she served as writer, director, editor, and producer, was one of only two shorts from the US in competition at the Martha's Vineyard International Film Festival, won the audience award for Best Narrative Short at the Virginia Film Festival, 2nd Place for Drama in the New York Women and Film and Television Festival, and honorbale mentions in the Johns Hopkins University Film Festival. Her short,Talking Piece, for which she served as writer, director, and producer, premiered at Detroit's Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, earned honorable mention at the San Francisco Black Film Festival, and won the Complex Cultural Currents Award from Stories by the River Festival. Her short, Full Service, for which she served as writer, director, and producer, premiered at the African Diaspora Film Festival at Columbia University and won Best Short at the Katra Film Festival in NYC and at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival. Her screenplay, Borderline ‘73, was an Academy Award Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship semi-finalist. Her screenplay, Psychotropia, won Best Screenplay at the California Women’s Film Festival, second place at the LA Underground Film Festival screenplay competition. Her music has been presented by Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and in countless smaller clubs in and around NYC. Her music-theater pieces have been presented at the Obie award winning Ice Factory Festival and HERE Arts Center. In addition, she has published articles and a book on arts in education. She has received fellowships and commissions from Yaddo, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and the Jerome Foundation. She is a NY state certified court arbitrator, was certified in trauma informed care by FEMA, and is a subject matter expert in social and emotional learning. She holds a BFA in Acting from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA from their Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program where she wrote both words and music.
