Lily Jackson

(She/Her/Hers)

Screenwriter

Biography

My name is Lily Jackson and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I'm a 24 year-old Cis-gendered, African American screenwriter and Woman from Wichita, Kansas. I am a Mid-western, minority writer looking to add my voice to the mix, shake things up to make positive change and inspire other Black girls to write their stories. I am the youngest of four girls and the only writer in a family. I am also a first generation college graduate and the only one to attend graduate school in my family. My mother was a single mother and she is my biggest inspiration and supporter. She's currently battling a rare and incurable ovarian cancer in stage four, and I am both a student and a caregiver for my mom. I love Beyonce, and I would describe myself as quirky but studious and determined. I work diligently, I write quickly and efficiently and I am eager to learn new things. I think it is important to remain humble, kind and to be lifelong learner. At the end of the day, I'm just a girl from Kansas, with big dreams.

I am obtained a MFA in Writing for Film and Television from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts in their low residency program in may of 2021. . For my undergraduate, I attended Wichita State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Creative Writing, dual minors in Communications and Honors and a certificate in Film Studies. I am also an International Baccaleurate Diploma recipient from Wichita East High School. I started writing, as a hobby because I love writing. I began writing seriously in high school, when I wrote my first one act play for a student showcase- a comedy about two people stranded in an airport two days before Christmas. It was titled "Stranded" and it surprisingly got a standing ovation. I never thought that people would like my writing, but here I am now, trying to break into show buisness as a writer.

I do not have a set genre or format, I'm flexible in my writing ability and I'm always open to learning new formats. I do primarily focus on Black women and girls as my protagonists, but I am also flexible at writing other characters too. My work is as diverse as my imagination, meaning it's limitless. I was raised to do anything I put my mind and heart to. If I dedicate myself to writing it, I can write it and write it well. I also love working with others on the production side, and love seeing my projects come to life. I can write theatre, musical theatre, film, new media such as video games, graphic novels and comics, novels, poems and television writing. However, my main passions are writing both screenplay and teleplay. I am inspired by a variety of writers, actors and directors, most notably Shonda Rimes, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Issa Rae and Misha Green. I am dedicated to providing diverse and innovative stories, characters and ideas to the industry while learning from others and I hope we get to work together soon. I know you will inspire me, and I hope I inspire you too! I can't wait to meet you, speak with you and create with you. Let's make this industry and the stories it tells limitless for all people, together.
