María Bird-Picó is a bilingual writer living in Puerto Rico, where she grew up with nine siblings, hundreds of books, and a sole Barbie. Until three years ago, María was the editor of a Latin American trade magazine. She has since fully dived into fiction writing, and rom-com, holiday, drama, and humorous screenwriting.
With her first drama screenplay, A Perfect Fit, she was one of 14 Latinos chosen a decade ago to attend a NALIP workshop in Los Angeles. She is also the screenwriter of La Mecedora, an acclaimed short produced by Puerto Rico´s Film Commission.
Her four books have garnered Puerto Rico´s major literary awards and recognitions. María is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, having served in Costa Rica in the 1980s, one of many experiences that has kindled her creativity and penchant for unique, personal stories.
