Highly driven and tenacious, Mel has always pursued goals relentlessly, whether that was training to be a professional wrestler, winning student of the year for her Biology degree or receiving a distinction for her second masters in Creative and Critical writing. During her MA, she finished writing her fantasy novel, was an editor on the University Anthology and discovered a passion and affinity for screenwriting. This led her to adapt this novel into a screenplay and write the first two episodes of a serialised drama set in Victorian London called The Napoleon of Crime. Alongside her studies and full-time job as a civil servant, she travelled to London, Paris and Washington for extensive archive research on the historical individuals in this crime drama. She also wrote a treatment for the show as part of the John Yorke course “Story for Screen”, receiving positive feedback from him which she used to further develop her idea.
Her pilot script for The Napoelon of Crime reached the semi-finals of the Final Draft 2018 Big Break Screenwriting Contest, the Screencraft 2019 Screenwriting Fellowship, and the 2019 Page International Screenwriting Awards. She will also be attending the Cinestory Writer's Retreat in LA later this year after reaching the semi-finals of their contest. She is hard at work editing her fantasy screenplay The Dragon Whisperer while continuing to expand her portfolio and seeking representation.
