Nate Friedman

Biography

Nate Friedman is a writer from Windsor, Ontario, Canada who loves all things Comedy. Currently 32 years of age, Nate resides near Toronto, ON. He recently graduated from Humber College for Comedy Writing and Performance, where he received the Joe Kertes Scholarship in 2018 and the David Goodman Comedy Scholarship for 2019. In addition, he received the Ontario Arts 'Tim Sims Encouragement Award' in 2020 for early career Comedic Excellence.

Nate is also a graduate of the University of Windsor (2010) with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics and minor in Sports Psychology. He has published three children’s book titled, with his most recent one released February 2020, “Coffee Monster and the Land of Coffee,” along with “The Last Hockey Fight” (2018) and “The Coffee Monster” (2015), available at Chapters-Indigo and Barnes and Noble in the US. Nate loves to be creative in all sorts of imaginative and fun ways. Comedy is Nate’s primary interest, having grown up with influences like Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, Walt Disney and Jim Henson’s Muppets.


Nate comes from a diverse background with parents of different religions: Jewish and Catholic, with his sister being a converted Muslim. His integrated multifaith background has given him a unique and accepting view of the world. He is fluent in French and English having graduated Honours from a French High School Ecole Secondaire EJ Lajeunesse. Growing up in a border city near Detroit, with family living in Los Angeles, New York and Denmark, he has keen insight into both American and Canadian Culture. Nate has also adventured abroad in places like: Australia, New Zealand, Israel and Across USA and Canada; he loves meeting new people and learning the difference in people’s way of life. Having been exposed to many walks of life, Nate brings many of these unique ideas to his writing, with threads of commonality.


Nate worked professionally as a Sales Manager in Telecommunications from 2011-2017 in Hamilton, Ontario, earning Sales Awards for ‘Customer Service’ and ‘Top Monthly Achiever’. He loves leading a team and making people strive to better themselves. He left his sales job in 2017 to pursue writing and performing professionally with a dream of one day being on Saturday Night Live. He regularly performs stand-up comedy around Toronto, ON including the iconic Yuk Yuks and is always looking to improve his craft while taking writing courses with The Second City: Writing for TV and Film and Improv Graduate A-E (Currently in Conservatory), Clowning, Voiceover Intensive Level 1-3 at Victoria Academy of the Arts and enjoys public speaking, having served as Club President of Brant Toastmasters 2016-2017.

As an actor, Nate had his first commercial role for Buzzfeed/Bud Light in 2019, and has performed background for Disney, NBC and Hallmark. During the Pandemic he shot/wrote/directed and starred in his first short film 'Keto Crazy' and acted in several others 'Hi-Tech Detectives' and 'LunaChicks' in supporting roles. In his spare time Nate enjoys watching Sports like Hockey, Basketball and Football and reading as well as watching Masterclasses from professionals: Shonda Rhimes, Steve Martin, Martin Scorcese, Natalie Portman and Aaron Sorkin.


It would be a dream come true to work as a professional comedy writer. He brings with him a wealth of expertise and life experience along with “the funny” and “the imagination”. He is looking to expand his network and work other gifted comedians to continue perfecting my craft, vowing to continually entertain.
