Nicholas Hales is a screenwriter and visual artist living in Cape Town, South Africa.
He completed his first screenplay, ‘The Box’ in 2009, which he submitted to the South African National Film and Video Foundation. On the strength of this submission he was selected for the Spark screenwriting program run by the South African National Film and Video Foundation in 2009. He completed this writing program in 2010. He was selected for the Sediba Masters writing program in 2011 and completed the first six months of this course from September 2011 to February 2012.
He received funding from the South African National Film and Video Foundation towards the end of 2013 to complete his feature screenplay, ‘The Death Zone’, (AKA ‘The Ascent’). The final draft of this screenplay was submitted and accepted by the South African National Film and Video Foundation in 2015. A number of producers in South Africa and The United Kingdom have shown interest in producing this script. This screenplay has also been under consideration for production by a TV/FILM network in 2014. This screenplay got to the semi final stage of Tablereadmyscreenplay.com Spring 2022.
Nicholas Hales received confirmation of funding from the South African National Film and Video Foundation for his short film, ‘The Cleaning’, Unfortunately this short film was never made due to financial issues between the original producer and the South African National Film and Video Foundation. Nicholas Hales wrote and directed the short film, “An Inch’, in 2014. This short film was shown at the ‘Independent Mazani Short Film Festival’, in Pretoria (South Africa) and selected as one of the best shorts from the festival to be shown on a television network in South Africa. This short was also selected for ‘shnit international short film festival’, in Cape Town, South Africa.
Nicholas Hales is presently working on two new feature screenplays.
