Robert Godwin is a writer and director living in Chile. Growing up in Burbank, California, next door to Hollywood, it was inevitable he would be drawn to the stories at the cinema. As a young teenager, fascinated by the power of visual imagery, he made movies and wrote his first stories.
Writing and Directing 2023-24:
“Hollywood Adjacent”, co-written with a fellow film student, received Best Feature Screenplay (South Film and Arts Academy Festiva)l; finalist (Prix Royal Paris Screenplay Awards, and Cannes International Screenplay); and selected (All Genre Screenplay Contest). It has been optioned to School Pictures.
“The Basement Remains”, won Best Screenplay (Los Angeles Crime and Horror Festival); and selected (Beverly Hills 24th Film Festival), among other honors.
“Butchie & Me” was picked up by WeShort.com; and is a Semi-Finalist (Rio de Janeiro World Film Festival).
Robert is currently finishing writing the first novella in a trilogy of dark fantasy stories, updating the centuries-old vampire mythos.
Together with his college degrees in cinema and in studio art, Robert holds an MBA in Marketing, which reflects his underlying themes of the sometimes-uneasy relationship between art and business. This was evident when, as the inaugural Director of the Santa Monica College Photography Gallery, Robert raised funds, designed exhibits, wrote the catalogs, and interviewed the diverse range of artists he brought in, several for a first showing in the US.
