Sarah Phillips is a director, writer, and cinematographer in Los Angeles. Her two genres of passion are musicals and science fiction.
In 2019, her short science-fiction TV proof-of-concept “Supplements,” won a Founder’s Circle Award at Louisiana Film Prize 2019, and is currently in festivals for 2020. Her short film drama, “Lilac Ocean Pumpkin Pine,” ran in festivals from 2018-2019, screening at Circle City, where it won Best Cinematography; Houston Int’l, where it won a Gold Remi for Drama; Louisiana Film Prize, where it won a Founder’s Circle Prize; Female Eye, Oxford, Vero Beach, and Kansas City. Before that, her short musical “Smile: A Musical” won the Short Screenplay Competition at Nashville Film Festival in 2016, before going on to screen at Dances with Films, Hollyshorts, Oxford Film Fest, and Moondance Int’l in 2017-2018. Her sci-fi short film "Separation of Church and Livia" won second place in the highly competitive AT&T Shape Create-A-Thon in July 2017 and won a Remi Award at Houston World Fest 2018.
When a director is also a cinematographer and a VFX artist, one biography can only be separated out so much before it appears to be a shell, when in fact, all three support one singular passion – Story. Sarah has been behind a camera since her teen years, and loves telling story with light, not in spite of it. And she found that in order to tell VFX stories, she had to learn how to composite domed cities and flying cars in order to tell the large-world stories she dreamed of.
As a DP, she has worked on features, shorts, web series, music videos, and commercials. She’s worked with brands such as The Gates Foundation, the Chan-Zuckerberg Foundation, Infiniti, LA Pride, Facebook, Babes Ride Out, EA Sports, Magic The Gathering, and more.
Her cinematography can be seen at sarahphillipscamera.com, and her VFX work can be seen at alphacentaurivfx.com.
Sarah holds a Bachelors in Journalism from the University of Missouri and an MFA in TV & Screenwriting from Stephens College
Proud member of: Alliance of Women Directors, Women in Film LA, Film Independent, and The Dramatist's Guild of America.
