My name is Terry Newman and I am an award winning UK scriptwriter for film, TV, radio and stage and a former university lecturer and course designer in scriptwriting at the University of Brighton and the International School of Screen Acting, London. So I know all sides of the scriptwriting craft, theory as well. I write commissioned scripts, comedy, drama and animation as well – adult, children and family – feature length and shorts, and most TV formats. I also ‘script doctor’. I’m called in to help people with their script and writing development, particularly to help sort out character development, formatting, plot and structural problems and to add some comedy, colour and verve to dialogue. Current and recent work includes the book/feature film adaptation ‘Perla S.’ written for Czech films, a political thriller based in the Far East for a client in Singapore, a series of children’s animated cartoons ‘The Two Princesses’ and a pilot for a TV long-form drama. I also have a feature TV pilot for a fantasy series in preproduction in Malta with Waterslate Productions and an animated feature called the ‘Shochet and the Storyteller’ is in production in Australia. Another book/feature film adaptation that I wrote for a client in 2016 was optioned before I had even finished the first draft. I have also just started writing for the very successful Element Animations Youtube channel.I have over a dozen commissions from the BBC for comedy and I have worked with some of the UK’s top comedy talent, such as Rory Bremner. I have had my own co-created family comedy show ‘Twinkle Twinkle Star’ on UK STAR and wrote the comedy ‘Hooray for Holyrood’ for BBC Scotland, where a number of my comedy monologues can also be heard. I am also a lyric and book writer for musicals and have two musicals, written for clients, in preproduction. I am an author published by Harper Collins and my novel, the comedy fantasy ‘Detective Strongoak and the Case of the Dead Elf’ is a #1 Kindle Bestseller Epic Fantasy in the USA. I have developed a successful three-stage approach to feature film scriptwriting that my clients find very helpful.
