Thada Catalon is a fearless, genre-bending storyteller who centers emotionally complex Black women in narratives that challenge, transform, and transcend. Her work explores the intersection of trauma, identity, and liberation—often wrapped in genre-forward packaging that fuses drama, thriller, satire, and psychological realism. She frequently explores themes of generational pain, mental health, spiritual reckoning, survival, and women empowerment. Whether through a chilling horror allegory or a laugh-out-loud social dramedy, Thada brings a culturally grounded, visually cinematic voice that is bold, raw, and powerfully human.
A U.S. Army veteran and multidisciplinary creative, Thada is also a producer of three feature films that have screened and streamed internationally. She’s also a former adjunct professor of screenwriting for the Art Institute of Houston, and the founder of Diversity in Cinema Academy—an online platform dedicated to empowering underrepresented filmmakers. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and was selected in the top 3% of over 11,000 applicants to join Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Impact Screenwriting community. Thada is also a finalist in multiple screenwriting programs, including the Austin Film Festival pitch competition, STARZ #TakeTheLead initiative and the Veterans in Media & Entertainment TV Mentorship Lab. Her body of work spans film, television, and digital storytelling, consistently rooted in purpose, power, and unapologetic truth.
