Uta Arning is an award-winning writer, director and producer. After a Master in Business in Germany and Japan she studied Film Directing in the MFA Programm of New York University Tisch School of the Arts in Singapore.
Her short films screened at numerous international film festivals. THE PERFECT WOMAN, her second year project, received support from the German Embassy in Singapore and was invited to screen at the Directors’ Guild of America as a Wasserman Award Finalist. During her studies, she had the opportunity to work with directors such as Oliver Stone, Roger Spottiswood, Shekhar Kapur, and Todd Solondz.
Her first feature film SNOWCHILD she realised in Japan. The film was awarded at the Moscow International Filmfestival in the Section “Perspectives”. It had its German premiere in competition at Filmfestival Max Ophüls, Saarbrücken, screened in the New German Films Section in Cannes 2012, and received the Jury Award at the Peace and Love Filmfestivalin Sweden. It was also presented at Asia Filmfest Munich as well as the Crime and Punishment Filmfestival Istanbul among others. A cinema tour in Germany followed. For the story of Boatgirl (formerly entitled as AVA) she won the sript competition Klyftan organized by the Swedish Film Institute and Film Fund West Sweden together with Göta Film. The story also received support from Jönköpings Kommun. After having been part of the Biennale College Cinema in Venice with a SCI-FI Virtual Reality Project she is now in pre-production of a Horror VR- Experience that received support by the Hamburg Film Fund. In 2022 she completed a documentary film, which will be screening at the Swedish SVT Television in 2023.
Uta has taught film classes at Jönköping and Shanghai University and is also working as a book author. Her titles are currently represented by Literature Agency Brauer in Germany.
