We are very enthusiastically searching for adult animation content for an ISA Verified Industry Pro. As the industry continues to grapple with content creation during this time, animated production is stronger than ever. So we’re aggressively looking for the next great animation scripts to get into production ASAP!
Side note: If you've written a live-action script that you believe could be converted to animation, please only submit if you're 100% sure it can work as an animation.
We’re specifically seeking animation geared towards an adult audience. Stuff that explores both mature and immature themes through a wildly inventive lens. Thanks to the wonders of animation, there’s a limitless expanse of creative terrain to play in, but we still want something firmly rooted in character and narrative structure. Remember that all the classics of the genre (The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Futurama) are so beloved because of their *unforgettable characters*, not just their laughs or unique animation styles.
Animation allows you to come at mature, adult stories in imaginative ways that we haven’t seen before. For example, BoJack Horseman is dealing with an existential crisis while still being gut-bustingly funny. Big Mouth deals with one of the most oft-used and cliché story lines out there - coming of age/teenage puberty - but it makes those tropes fresh with its unique voice and the “puberty monster” angle. The Boondocks deals with race relations in America and takes a no-holds-barred approach made palatable because it was animated, with great characters and hilarious dialogue.
Other comp titles: Rick & Morty, Bob’s Burgers, Archer, Clone High, and Space Ghost Coast To Coast
And while we’re obviously looking for hilarious, it doesn’t HAVE to be funny. Something like Samurai Jack was great despite not being a comedy – it relied on an imagination-expanding storyline and fantastic visuals.
Speaking of visuals - If you have art, character designs, pitch materials, etc, please include that with your submission. But it’s okay if not; if we love the script, we can pair you with someone to do art.
When submitting, please include your SCRIPT, a SYNOPSIS and most importantly, a thoroughly developed LOGLINE. We want to know your concept and hook within the logline. We will narrow our selection from the synopsis and logline, so you’ll want to impress and grab us with those elements.
Union and non-union writers accepted. Scripts from anywhere in the world will be considered but must be in English language.
NOTE: An “ISA-verified producer” means it is a respected industry professional/company with means to fund projects that suit their mandate. They wish to remain private and have entrusted the ISA to vet and find content to send to them.
