An ISA Approved, Academy Award nominated director is seeking a script to produce THIS YEAR. Here is a description of what they are looking for:
“The director is known for their love of magic realism. Many of the director’s previous shorts contain comedic elements, but have a human, deep quality. The stories should be unique and original, rather whimsical and more uplifting than dark. The themes of age, time, love and solitude are present in most of their past work. The material should be suitable for a production between $1-4mm, having a universal message. Shooting in Europe is an option.”
Comp titles include: Room, Boyhood, Swiss Army Man, Whiplash, Lost in Translation and Her.
As you can see from that list, the genre of the story can be anything if that story is humane and imaginative. We’re looking to find scripts with a realistic narrative combined with surreal elements of dream or fantasy. Essentially, we’re looking for familiar themes told in unique, surprising ways.
Though not integral, pedigree and laurels will be considered. Meaning, if your project or you/yourself have won or placed highly in multiple contests or fellowships, or have been produced in the past, please notate that when submitting.
Female and diverse writers are encouraged to submit.
Union and non-union writers accepted.
