Again, this is a major company, one that has the capacity and budgets to make adult-oriented fare comparable to films like Moneyball, Captain Phillips, and The Social Network. Although those movies are not necessarily by writer-directors, they have the prestige elegance, market appeal and mainstream sensibilities that this company is looking for. They’re looking to find the next Noah Baumbach, Spike Jonze or Greta Gerwig. And we’d love to help them find that!
Good comparison titles: Marriage Story, The Farewell, Parasite, Silver Linings Playbook, The Kitchen, Hustlers, Monster, Lost in Translation, Her, Crazy Heart, Far From Heaven and Moonlight.
Comparable auteurs: Noah Baumbach, Patty Jenkins, Greta Gerwig, David O. Russell, Scott Cooper, Spike Jonze, Sofia Coppola, Marielle Heller, Barry Jenkins, Damien Chazelle, Lorene Scafaria, Lulu Wang and Todd Haynes.
We’re NOT looking for Tarantino/David Lynch-style stuff. Nothing too out there or wildly ambitious in terms of scale, period or budget, like Tarantino’s last several films. And nothing too artfully experimental. These need to have mass appeal and be sustainable within the adult/festival marketplace.
Very big bonus to writer-directors that can upload or show directing reels or prior films (features or shorts)
PLEASE NOTE: We will push selected scripts to be directed by the writer, though there is no guarantee that will be the case. That part is dependent on prior experience and past films. We are looking for scripts with the vision of a writer-director.
When submitting, please include your SCRIPT, a SYNOPSIS and a thoroughly developed LOGLINE. We want to know your concept and hook within the logline. We will narrow our selection from the synopsis and logline, so you’ll want to put your best foot forward.
Union and non-union writers accepted. Scripts from anywhere in the world will be considered but must be in English language.
