A major ISA Verified Pro is looking for high-school dramedy pilots from diverse or unique perspectives, or that feature a cast of characters that offers great roles to marginalized voices. We’re looking for stuff that is heartfelt and thoughtful, and able to fluctuate between drama and comedy in an organic way. Sex Education and Love, Victor are great comps.
What’s important here is CHARACTER – we’d like to see fully-developed characters with rich inner lives. And, as this is a TV show, they need to feel realistic to a degree but there should be a sense of escapism and romanticism involved. Bright, hopeful and inspiring are applicable terms here.
The other big thing is “voice.” We’re of course looking for a good hook, but the main prerogative here is unique perspective, a take on this genre that we haven’t quite seen before. So, though we’re always pushing for diversity across voices and creators, we are actively seeking work by BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and female writers for this gig especially.
Other comps include On My Block, Freaks and Geeks, My So-Called Life, Degrassi: The Next Generation, and a bit of Euphoria, but ideally with more of a comedic bent.
When submitting, please include your SCRIPT, a SYNOPSIS and most importantly, a thoroughly developed LOGLINE. We want to know your concept and hook within the logline. We will narrow our selection from the synopsis and logline, so you’ll want to impress and grab us with those elements.
Union and non-union writers accepted. Scripts from anywhere in the world will be considered but must be in English language.
NOTE: An “ISA Verified Pro” means it is a respected industry professional/company with means to fund projects that suit their mandate. They wish to remain private and have entrusted the ISA to vet and find content to send to them.
