We have a romantic drama feature screenplay that was turned into a proof-of-concept short in 2019. The short was accepted into over 20 festivals around the world, winning awards in 10, including multiple “Best Film” and “Best Screenplay” awards. The success of the short has led to several financiers vying to fund the feature project, and the attachment of one of the world’s biggest African American stars to play the lead role. This movie will be produced, and we already have interest from major distributors. The logline is:
This story, which is based on the experience of the screenwriter-director’s own family, targets mature audiences (50+); African-American audiences; and audiences who enjoy stories with elements of faith – all very loyal audiences who are significantly underserved by most feature movies.
We want to launch the novel version of the screenplay as soon as possible to help build the audience for the movie, which will then also help sell the book. This is a successful pattern followed by many movies – for example, The Help. We will create a significant social media marketing campaign for the book and movie.
Ideally, as the lead character in the movie is African American, we’d love to find an African American writer to join on the project. The screenwriter is a very collaborative writer. Credit will be as author of the novel, based on the screenplay. Please submit Cover Letter (introducing yourself and initial thoughts on the project), Resume and Samples (up to 10 pages).
