Min Tran is a second-generation Vietnamese-Australian writer and filmmaker with a passion for horror. Born and raised in Melbourne after his parents migrated from Vietnam in the late 1980s, Min grew up navigating two cultures. Storytelling became his creative outlet, eventually leading to a scholarship to study film and shape his voice as a filmmaker.
He began his career as a cinema projectionist, spending over a decade immersed in film while developing his craft. As a director, his horror shorts have screened internationally. The Projection Room (2007, short) won Best International Student Film at the Action Cut Film Festival in Los Angeles. Roses are Dead (2010, short) was an official selection at the Pittsburgh Horror Film Festival. Awake in My Sleep (2016, short) premiered at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival and won Best Actor and Best Poster Design at the Night of Horror Festival in Germany.
His latest project, Traditional (2025, unproduced feature), won Best Feature Screenplay at the LA International Screenplay Awards. The film blends Southeast Asian folklore with Western horror to explore identity, generational trauma, and cultural superstition. As a screenwriter, Min has also been a finalist in the ScreenCraft, Emerging Screenwriters, and Stage 32 competitions. He is currently developing Traditional for production.
