Biography

Harnessing the Power of Music and Animation for Next-Gen Storytelling--The Musical Genre Mash-Up.

I'm a passionate screenwriter, songwriter, and animator driven to create innovative storytelling experiences. My journey began with classic songs and soundtracks of timeless musicals filling my childhood home.  My parents were great fans of "The Platters". Their favorite song was "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". When Musicals became international movie favorites, my mother would buy the film's 33 rpm record and play it on the stereo system ("My Fair Lady"; "The Sound of Music"). As an young adult, my favorite films were musicals. ("West Side Story"; "Saturday Night Fever"; "Grease"; "Mama Mia"; "Dirty Dancing"). These movies ignited a lifelong love of music woven into narrative. With the recent advent of animation added to Music Videos, I became interested in adding animation to the Musical/Genre format. As a seasoned professional, I've garnered over 60 prestigious ISA Approved Awards for my  screenplays, songs, and animated music videos. This international acclaim (spanning the USA, Canada, UK, Japan, Europe, and beyond) validates the global appeal of my work.

Why Musical/Genre Mash-Ups with Animation

Today's audiences crave fresh and engaging storytelling formats. My vision is to pioneer the "Musical /Genre Mash-Up with Animation", a concept fuelled by three key observations.

--Music Video Dominance:  Music videos consistently top YouTube's most watched lists, proving the enduring power of music in storytelling.

--Adult Animation Rise: Popular series like "Archer" and films like "Soul" demonstrate the growing appetite for sophisticated animation.

--Enduring Genres: Genres like horror, thriller, comedy, and romance maintain their popularity, offering a foundation for creative exploration.

Beyond Nostalgia: A New Era of Musical Storytelling

Today's viewers are multimedia consumers, demanding variety and interactive experiences. Traditional musicals may struggle to hold their attention. My unique approach aims to bridge that gap with a fresh, animated twist.

Qualifications for the Challenge:

--Award-Winning Expertise: My diverse skill set as a screenwriter, songwriter, and animator equips me to excel in this multifaceted storytelling format.

--Proven International Appeal: Awards across numerous countries showcase my ability to connect with global audiences.

--Passion for Innovation: I'm a forward-thinking creative driven to push storytelling boundaries through the power of music and animation.

I'm confident this groundbreaking approach can captivate audiences worldwide.  A future where musicals evolve by incorporating the power of animation and genre fusion. A future to enthrall a new generation who consume content varied in content and presentation styles.

I've won over 60 ISA Approved Awards in three areas--Screenplays, Songs, and Animated Music Videos. My awards come from different countries including USA, CANADA, ENGLAND, FRANCE, SWITZERLAND, SWEDEN, SLOVAKIA, SEOUL, JAPAN, GERMANY, INDIA, KOREA,SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA, SRI LANKA, ITALY, BUDAPEST, BULGARIA, PHILIPPINES,  AUSTRALIA, RIO DE JANEIRO, MACEDONIA, AND TURKEY. This  supports the premise that my work has International Appeal.

I write the original music for all my projects and can help adapt them into animated productions. The use of the songs and potential execution of the animation for my films are offered as part of the purchase price for my screenplays. This should greatly reduce the cost for the production of my work.  My goal is to make High Concept/Low Budget films which have good prospects to make a profit.  I have my own small studio in Vancouver, BC, Canada and can help with locations for filming. My scripts are  simple with a limited number of characters and settings to enable them to be made inexpensively and efficiently.  They do not include animals, children, or expensive special effects.  They are created to be made with a low to mid-cost budget with a rating of PG 13 to R.

I am a recently retired teacher with the Vancouver School Board.  During the summer months, when I was teaching, I took several courses with the Vancouver Film School including Screenwriting, Animation, Make Up, and Theatrical Tattoo Design. I also took an overview course on film making that included simple video rendering.  I've taken classes in playing the guitar, song composition, and singing.  For many years, I've been involved in both the social and ballroom dance community and enjoy dancing many different dance styles.

As a result of attending film school, I wrote "Baby Boomers Can Dance" which features twelve original songs.  I've written over forty original songs with various dance rhythms.  My taste in music is very wide and I've written songs in various genres including Country Two Step, Cha Cha, Waltz, Samba, Disco, Rap, Paso Doble, Tango, Foxtrot, Jive, Rumba,  and Blues.  I can dance most ballroom and social dances as a follow and do tap dancing and simple choreography.  I also do guitar decoration using sequins.

For my VIDEO PITCH on this site, I included my animated music video "Queen of Mean".  As mentioned, this video earned me an award for Best Micro Short and Bronze Medal Award for Humor in a Music Video. The song is sung by my son, Stephen Price.  The "animation feel" to the video is created by the transitions between the images rather than by traditional pixallation techniques.  I envision using this type of "Animated Music Video" in "Baby Boomers Can Dance" to showcase the twelve original songs. If the whole film was shot using animation, the animation for the main part of the film could be shot at 24 frames per second and the Animated Music Videos could be shot at 12 frames per second to differentiate the Animated Music Videos from the main part of the film.
